TMS Robotics Banner

Timberline Middle School offers a Robotics Club open to all students in grades 6–8. This competitive program engages students in learning core robotics concepts while designing, building, and programming robots to participate in the VEX IQ Global Challenge. Teams are composed of 3-5 students and at least one parent coach. We hold meetings at school and students may take their robotics kits home between meetings to develop and refine their robots.

2025-2026 VEX IQ Challenge - Mix and Match

Note: We do not support private teams. To get TMS support, teams must sign up under one of our team numbers (84 or 184). It is ok if teams have members from other LWSD schools that do not offer a robotics program.

Commitment:

  • Attend meetings during Flex
  • 1-2 hours of work outside of school per week
  • 1 student nominated as team Robotics Club cabinet member
  • 1 parent coach to manage the team
    • Coach coordinates parents, students and communicates with club advisors
    • Coach registers team online and manages tournament fees and travel
    • Coach organizes and supervises outside of school meetings
    • Coach registers team for events through https://www.robotevents.com/
  • At least 1 tournament at Timberline (other tournaments are available but optional)
  • 1 mandatory TMS League
  • Potential travel to state competition or world competition based on qualification and whether teams want to attend
  • Each team must have one LWSD cleared adult volunteer at one of our two tournaments, a sign up sheet will come out after registration

Expenses:

  • Payment due to TMS:
    • School ASB Fee (One time per year school wide fee for joining any school clubs or activities)
    • $60 Robotics club fee (Added to student account after all teams are registered)
      • This fee covers kits, replacement parts, and team registration
  • Payment due after teams are finalized:
    • $50 per team tournament registration fee for any TMS Tournaments (no fee for leagues)
    • There will be more expenses for state and world competitions if teams qualify and wish to attend

If you would like to join Robotics Club you must follow this process:

  1. Form a team of 3-5 students
    1. Club advisors do not form teams and they do not force students on to other teams
    2. There will be a chance to form teams at the beginning of the year interest meeting
    3. If you are still having a hard time finding a team email the club advisors and they will add you to the free agent list
  2. Find a parent/guardian willing to be your coach
  3. Come up with a team name
  4. The Team Coach uses this link to enter the team's information.
  5. Each parent must complete this permission form (link)
  6. Once the above is complete, you will be given a date and time to pick up your robotics kit.

For students who are unable to form a team:

  1. Email Mr. Steele with your name, grade level and district email address
  2. You will be added to our Free Agent list
  3. This list will be used when teams are looking to add new members, they will reach out to you to meet about forming a team
  4. If the list reaches 4 or more students, all students will meet to discuss forming a team

All steps must be complete by the September 26th 2025. This is a hard date, submissions after this date will not be accepted!

For more information please email our Club Advisors. If you are emailing about an existing team, please include your team number.
