Timberline Middle School students explore life in space with NASA Solar System Ambassador volunteer

NASA volunteer

Students at Timberline Middle School had an out‑of‑this‑world learning experience this December thanks to a special visit from Guhan Suriyanarayanan, a NASA Solar System Ambassador volunteer. Suriyanarayanan, who is the parent of a student in the class, spent the day engaging classes in an interactive exploration of what it’s really like to live and work aboard the International Space Station (ISS).

During the presentation, students learned how astronauts manage everyday necessities in space, including eating, exercising and adapting to microgravity. Timberline CTE teacher Christian Smith noted that students were highly engaged throughout the visit, asking thoughtful questions and showing genuine excitement as they learned about day‑to‑day life in orbit.

Special guest speakers like this allow our students to experience curious and collaborative learning, which helps prepare our students to be future-ready.
